Dataset Overview

Study purpose: In this dataset, pigs were investigated for intrinsic cardiac nervous system (ICN) recoding via cardiovascular output monitoring after cervical vagi stimulation.

Data collection: A linear micro-electrode array was used to record the activity generated by neurons in the intrinsic cardiac nervous system. The resulting atrial electrogram was used to determine atrial rate, duration and characterization of atrial arrhythmias and for identification of the timing of atrial electrical artifacts. The subject's systolic left ventricle pressures was measured using a 5-F pigtail placed in the left ventricle via carotid artery sheath using ultrasound guidance. Systemic arterial pressure was measured using a femoral arterial catheter.

Curator's Notes

Experimental Design: The subject was anesthetized with isoflurane. Vascular access to measure pressure went through the femoral artery, and fluid withdrawal was taken through the femoral veins. A linear micro-electrode array was used to record the activity generated by neurons in the intrinsic cardiac nervous system. The resulting atrial electrogram was used to determine atrial rate, duration and characterization of atrial arrhythmias and for identification of the timing of atrial electrical artifacts. A Cambridge Electronic Design data acquisition system digitized the resulting microelectrode array signals and cardiovascular indices for off-line analysis. Spike2 was used to identify individual neuronal somata activity based on the amplitude and configuration of the respective recorded action potentials. The subject's systolic left ventricle pressures was measured using a 5-F pigtail placed in the left ventricle via carotid artery sheath using ultrasound guidance. Systemic arterial pressure was measured using a femoral arterial catheter.
