Dataset Overview

Study purpose: Detailed characteristics of the abdominal vagus nerve in rats are crucial for the successful development of neuromodulation strategies used to repair a CNS/PNS injury or disease. This study aims to help identify details within the abdominal vagus nerve.

Data collection: Light microscopy images of cross-sections of the abdominal vagus nerve of an entire nerve (10X) and a montage of the entire nerve in higher magnification (100X) for both fascicles 1 and 2 for each animal (n=3). Determination of light and electron microscopy characteristics of the abdominal vagus nerve in rats. There are images of an overview of the entire nerve (10X), 100X magnification images, and a montage of the entire nerve in higher magnification (100X) for both fascicles 1 and 2 for each animal (n=3).

Primary conclusion: None stated.

Curator's Notes

Experimental Design: The abdominal vagus nerve was removed from adult male Sprague-Dawley rats (n=3), fixed and stained with Toluidin blue solution.

Completeness: This dataset is part of a larger study, entitled "Determination of light and electron microscopy characteristics of the abdominal vagus nerve in rats"

Subjects & Samples: This study used 68-day old Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats (n=3). Abdominal vagus nerve samples were stained and imaged.

Primary vs derivative data: Primary folders are organized by subject identification with jp2 formatted image files. The derivatives folder contains control images for each rat as a jp2 image, alongside a "control overview" for each rat (also as jp2 images).
